BOSTON (CBS) – The New England Patriots, already very rich in tight end talent, have signed another veteran.
According Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Visanthe Shiancoe has signed a one-year deal with the Patriots.
The 32-year-old Shiancoe played the last five seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, and has 243 catches, 2,677 receiver yards and 27 touchdowns over his career.
Shiancoe’s best season came in 2009 when he hauled in 56 catches for 566 yards and 11 touchdowns.
The Patriots currently have five tight ends on their roster, headlined by Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez.
Shiancoe, originally drafted by the New York Giants in 2003, reportedly turned down a one-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks last week.
