Long Time Voice Of The New England Patriots Gino Cappelletti Retiring

BOSTON (CBS) - Longtime color commentator of the New England Patriots, Gino Cappelletti, has decided to retire after 33 years.

"Through five decades, my romance with football and my relationship with the Patriots organization have provided me with a lifetime of wonderful memories," said Cappelletti when announcing his decision to retire. "I have had the privilege of sharing the broadcast of six Super Bowls, and amazingly, five in the past decade. The memory of the first Super Bowl victory will always be fresh in my mind. For me, it serves as a special reminder of how far this franchise has come, the challenges that were met, and the adversity we faced in those early years."

Cappelletti continued, "But as they say in the huddle after a long, successful day's work…it's time to take a knee and celebrate the win!"

Cappelletti has been a commentator for The New England Patriots, currently on 98.5 The Sports Hub, for 33 years.

He has worked along with Gil Santos for 29 of those years.

Cappelletti was born in Minnesota and attended the University of Minnesota.

Beginning in 1960, he played 11 seasons with the Boston Patriots. as a wide receiver and a kicker.

He holds two of the top five scoring seasons in league history – 147 points in 1961 and 155 points in 1964. Also in 1964, he was the first Patriot to earn the distinction of League MVP.

Cappelletti ranked as the Patriots all-time leading scorer with 1,130 points before his record was surpassed in 2005.

He was voted an AFL All-Star five times during his eleven years with the Patriots. In 1992, Cappelletti was inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame and his number, 20, was retired by the Patriots.
