BOSTON (CBS) – The Red Sox placed righthanded pitcher Scott Atchison on the 15-day disabled list Sunday due to right forearm tightness.
Atchison has been one of the team’s top relievers this season, compiling a 1.76 ERA and 34 strikeouts over 46 innings.
In Atchison’s place, the Red Sox called up 26-year-old righty Junichi Tazawa.
In his first stint this season with the Sox, Tazawa allowed zero earned runs over 6.1 innings.
Tazawa has gone 3-2 with four saves and a 2.55 ERA with Triple-A Pawtucket this season.
