Kerry Kennedy Charged With Driving While Impaired

SOMERS, NY (CBS) - Kerry Kennedy, the ex-wife of former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and a daughter of Robert F. Kennedy, is facing charges for driving while impaired.

CBS New York reports that New York State Police arrested Kennedy Friday morning in Somers, NY following a hit and run accident in a nearby town.

Officials say the 52-year-old Kennedy's 2008 Lexus RS 350 collided with a tractor-trailer around 8 a.m.

A short time later, officers found the car pulled over on the side of the road with Kennedy behind the wheel.

Officers determined she was under the influence of drugs.

Kennedy's spokesperson, Ken Sunshine suggested in a statement that the officers' conclusions were not accurate.

"Kerry Kennedy voluntarily took breathalyzer, blood and urine tests all of which showed no drugs or alcohol whatsoever in her system. The charges were filed before the test results were available," Sunshine said in a statement.

However, a police source disputed Sunshine's statement, telling CBS New York that the test results have not come back, and that Kennedy admitted to officers that she had taken Ambien.

Kennedy and Cuomo divorced in 2005. They have three daughters together.
