Saugus Auto Shop Loses Car Sales License Over Stolen Vehicle, Records Violations

SAUGUS (CBS) - A Saugus auto parts shop has lost its auto sales license for the next 45 days after police found a stolen car at the shop and hundreds of record keeping violations.

An investigation into Patty's Auto Parts started when a man thought he saw his wife's stolen car at the shop.

Saugus police found that car's VIN number matched that of the stolen car. But the car was painted a different color and stripped. Patty's employees were unable to produce the vehicle's records.

A follow-up investigation found 272 entries in the company's record book that did not have any supporting documentation.

That prompted selectmen unanimously vote to suspend the shop's auto sales license for 45 days.
