Pedroia Out Of Lineup With New Thumb Issue

BOSTON (CBS) -- The good news? Dustin Pedroia has not reaggravated his thumb injury from earlier in the season.

The bad news? He's got a new thumb problem, and it's keeping him out of the lineup for the Red Sox' series finale in Oakland on Wednesday afternoon.

"It's pretty frustrating," Pedroia said Wednesday, according to CSNNE's Sean McAdam. "It was fine during the game [Tuesday], and then I was sore after the game and today I'm pretty sore. Maybe it's from when I dove for that ball in right field. I don't know what happened."

Pedroia missed a week at the end of May and beginning of June with a thumb issue, but he said this new pain is not in the same area that caused the previous issues.

Since returning from that thumb injury on June 5, Pedroia has hit just .210 with a .587 OPS in 26 games. Overall, he's hitting .266 on the season with six homers, 19 doubles and 33 RBIs.

The lineup for Wednesday's finale in Oakland is below.

1. Daniel Nava, LF
2. Ryan Kalish, CF
3. David Ortiz, DH
4. Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C
5. Adrian Gonzalez, 1B
6. Mauro Gomez, 3B
7. Cody Ross, RF
8. Mike Aviles, SS
9. Nick Punto, 2B

Aaron Cook, SP
