Flames broke out in the house on Water Street shortly after 1 p.m. and quickly spread through the entire building.
There were preliminary reports of people trapped, but authorities said it appears that everyone inside escaped safely.
The fire chief told WBZ-TV the fire likely started on a grill on a second floor porch.
The heavy flames and smoke made it appear as through a second triple decker had also caught fire, but authorities said it did not.
