Beckett Slated For Saturday Start Against Mariners

BOSTON (CBS) - Josh Beckett will return to the mound for the Red Sox Saturday in Seattle.

Beckett has been on the disabled list since June 16 with inflammation in his pitching shoulder, and is eligible to come off the DL on Friday. Manager Bobby Valentine the right-hander would get the start following Boston's 5-1 win over the Blue Jays Tuesday night.

Beckett is 4-7 with a 4.14 ERA this season. He allowed four earned runs over seven innings his last time on the hill, a 4-1 loss to the Miami Marlins.

Valentine also announced Tuesday that he will go with a six-man rotation when Beckett returns.

Jon Lester gets the nod in Wednesday's finale against the Jays. Franklin Morales will then pitch the opener of a four-game set with the M's in Seattle, followed by Aaron Cook, Beckett and Felix Doubront. Daisuke Matsuzaka will pitch Monday night as Boston opens a three-game set with the Athletics in Oakland.

Valentine said he plans on keeping the six-man rotation until the All-Star Break .
