Obama Raises Nearly $3 Million In Boston Visit

BOSTON (CBS/AP) — President Obama campaigned in New Hampshire and attended events in Boston Monday to raise an estimated $3 million for his re-election campaign.

MASSACHUSETTS

The president's first event in the Bay State was a small campaign round-table at Hamersley's Bistro in Boston's South End with 25 people. Tickets cost $40,000 per person.

Obama was introduced at the event by Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren.

The president finished his busy day at a fundraiser at a private home in Weston with tickets costing $17,900 per person and $35,800 per couple. The president spoke casually to about 100 guests and took questions after reporters left.

Money from the events will go to a joint fundraising committee of Obama for America, the Democratic National Committee and several state Democratic parties.

NEW HAMPSHIRE

Earlier in the day, President Barack Obama visited Durham, New Hampshire to lay out his case for a second term and unleash a blistering attack on Mitt Romney's record at Bain Capital and his plans for America.

He told voters gridlock in Washington is slowing down the economic recovery.

WBZ-TV's Lauren Leamanczyk reports

"What's holding us back is a stalemate in Washington between two fundamentally different visions in which direction we should go," Mr. Obama said. "New Hamsphire this election is your chance to break the stalemate, your chance to move this country forward instead of seeing it go backwards."

The president got loud cheers as he touted his accomplishments such as tax cuts for the middle class and the killing of Osama Bin Laden.

Then he took aim at Gov. Mitt Romney's term at the helm of Bain Capital. He says Romney owned companies that were leaders in the outsourcing of American jobs to China and India and he says Romney would keep the same policies as president.

Obama accused Republicans of forcing working class voters to pay for tax cuts for the rich.

"To pay for another $250,000 tax cut for the average millionaire they are going to ask you to foot the bill," Obama said. A man shouted from the crowd, "We can't afford it!"

President Obama did not mention the Supreme Court's decision on the Arizona immigration law.

The gymnasium was hot and humid. Many people had waited in the rain to see President Obama speak. They chanted "four more years" throughout his address.

But even the most enthusiastic supporters say his win in New Hampshire is not a sure thing.

"It's the economy. They're concerned about the economy. A lot of them are still in a wait and see mode," said one voter.
