Meet Carla: Logan Airport's New Bilingual Virtual Assistant

BOSTON (CBS) - She's only a projection, but passengers at Logan Airport hope she can make the security screening process a little easier for everyone.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Karen Twomey reports.

Her name is Carla, and she's a virtual customer service agent at the security checkpoint in Terminal E of Logan Airport.

So, instead of reading a sign of how many ounces your liquids are confined to, Carla will tell you.

"If you have liquid items over 3.4 ounces, you'll need to return to the ticket counter," Carla says.

Ed Freni, the Director of Aviation at Logan Airport, says he thinks using Carla will be a vast improvement over the signs.

"The number of signs that we have out are somewhat ineffective at times because it's just overwhelming, and I think this is an attention-getting process, and I think it remains to be seen. We hope it works," said Freni.

Carla speaks both English and Spanish. She will be turned on from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. everyday.

Logan is one of the first airports to try the virtual assistant.
