Welker, Friends Tackled By Security In Aspen

BOSTON (CBS) - Not one to shy away from contact, New England Patriots receiver Wes Welker is already getting tackled even before the football season begins.

The New York Post is reporting Welker and six of his friends were involved in an altercation with security guards in Aspen, Colo., over the weekend.

The tussle occurred when Welker and his crew -- out for a bit of pre-celebration for Welker's wedding -- tried to enter a Patron Tequila-sponsored event Friday evening, part of the Aspen Food and Wine Classic. Sources told the Post that Welker and his friends tried to rush into the event, held at the Above The Salt restaurant, without checking in with party staffers.

That's when it turned into more of a football game than a wine event, with security tackling Welker and his group. Witnesses told the Post the group still would not cooperate, and Welker himself was physically restrained.

The group was not arrested, but cops did threaten to do so. Security calmed them all down and they were kicked off the property.

Aspen police confirmed to the Post there was a "lecture and release" incident at the Aspen restaurant Friday night, but could not confirm if the Patriots receiver and his party were involved.

Welker was in Aspen for his weekend wedding to Anna Burns.
