90-Degree Weather Coming This Week

BOSTON (CBS) - June 2012 has been a very different month than what we have become accustomed to lately.

18 days into the month and we are running over 4 degrees below normal per day and we haven't even hit 80 degrees yet!

Our warmest temperature this June was 79 degrees back on June 8th and 9th.

If this below normal trend were to continue we could record our first below normal month in exactly a year.

June 2011 was our last below normal month as far as temperatures go. But, in typical New England fashion, things are about to change in a big way.

Summer officially begins on Wednesday at 7:09 p.m., and will likely coincide with our first 90-degree day of the year.

High temperatures on Wednesday and Thursday should soar well past the 90 degree mark.

And with winds generally out of the west the coastline will not be spared this time.

Boston will also be well over 90 both days and could challenge some long standing records.

The record for Wednesday is going be tough to beat - 98 degrees set back in 1953.  That one will likely stick around a while longer.

But, Thursday's record of 95 set back in 1949 has a good shot at being broken in Boston.

And it won't be just the heat, but also the humidity.

Dewpoints will climb well into the 60s giving us a true "triple H" feel later this week, creating dangerous conditions for anyone working or spending any prolonged time outdoors.

Despite the mild pattern we have been in for the last several months, 90 degree days have not been all that common.

Our warmest temperature so far this year was 87 degrees, oddly enough on April 16th, Marathon Monday.

For our last 90-degree day, you have to go all the way back to August 2, 2011, more than 320 days ago.

So will we see more 90's in the near future?

Not likely.

A cool front slides through on Friday and will bring in somewhat cooler and drier air this weekend, and looking beyond that, it still appears the northeastern U.S. will stay somewhat cooler than the rest of the country.
