The victim was pronounced dead on arrival at Boston Medical Center. Neighbors say the victim was a longtime resident of the housing project and a mother of five.

They say the two women knew each other.

Police are continuing an investigation.

This is the fourth homicide in South Boston since April.  All have happened within a few blocks of each other.

Police say in the last two months, additional resources have been assigned to the neighborhood, resulting in over 200 arrests.

" I am committed to putting an end to the behavior that negatively impacts the quality of life for the hard-working, law abiding residents of South Boston and across the City," Commissioner Ed Davis said at a recent community meeting in South Boston.
