BU Student Returns Home After Surviving New Zealand Crash

BOSTON (AP) — A Boston University student who suffered severe head injuries in a van crash in New Zealand that resulted in the deaths of three classmates has returned to Boston.

The medical flight carrying 21-year-old Meg Theriault of Salisbury and her parents arrived at Logan International Airport at about 3 a.m. Thursday.

Theriault had been in a medically-induced coma following brain surgery after the May 12 crash.

Family and friends tell the Daily News of Newburyport she will continue her recovery at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

The BU students were heading to hike a well-known volcanic crater last month when their minivan rolled over.

Theriault had been studying in Australia, but had joined other Boston University students in New Zealand for a weekend outing when the crash happened.
