Clinton Teen May Have Been Drinking Hours Before Her Death

CLINTON (CBS) - A 15-year-old girl found dead in Clinton on Sunday may have been drinking in the hours before her death.

Mackenzie Hohl had been missing since Friday.

"I miss her and my heart's broken and I don't know how to heal it," said Sandra Sowa, Hohl's grandmother.

Friends said Hohl was dropped off at the Hannaford supermarket plaza in Clinton after a Friday night party and that she was going to walk along railroad tracks behind the plaza to go to her grandmother's house.

"I don't believe that a 15-year-old girl who was drunk should have been left alone to fend for herself at 11 o'clock at night," said Rachel Peto, Hohl's friend.

Authorities believe that while walking along the tracks, Hohl fell 20-30 feet from a wall and landed in a shallow body of water.

"I truly believe she was trying to get to my house because the tracks is right over there," said Sowa.

Sowa wants to know if her granddaughter was left alone and possibly drunk when she was dropped off that night.

"If that happened, only if because I don't know, I would be very angry," said Sowa.

No foul play is suspected in Hohl's death, authorities said.

The investigation is ongoing.
