Funeral Plans Announced For Fallen Springfield Officer
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Funeral arrangements have been announced for a Springfield police officer killed this week when he responded to a domestic violence case.
A wake for Officer Kevin Ambrose is planned Thursday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Sampson's Chapel of the Acres Funeral Home. His funeral is Friday morning at St. Catherine of Siena church, with burial in Hillcrest Cemetery. Out-of-town police officers are expected to march from the church to his burial site.
Ambrose was shot Monday when he answered a 911 call from a Springfield woman who said she feared for her life after a dispute with her ex-boyfriend, New York City corrections officer Shawn Bryan. Police said Bryan killed Ambrose, critically wounded Charlene Mitchell and killed himself.
Ambrose was a 36-year veteran of the Springfield department. He leaves a wife, two children and a grandchild.
