Raccoon Gets Caught In Illegal Trap Set Near Norfolk School

NORFOLK (CBS) – A raccoon got caught in a trap set illegally near a school in Norfolk on Sunday morning.

At around 8:45 a.m., a resident found a raccoon dragging a spring-loaded leg-hold trap around her leg.

Wildlife officials freed the raccoon and transported it to Tufts Wildlife Hospital in Grafton, where it was euthanized.

Officer Hilary Cohen was brought in for the rescue, and she talked with WBZ NewsRadio 1030’s Drew Moholland:

The origin of the leg hold trap, which is illegal to own and use in Massachusetts, remains unknown.

Police are urging residents and pedestrians to use caution because the trap was set near the Freeman Centennial School.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
