Pedroia (Thumb) Gets Night Off Against Tigers

BOSTON (CBS) - Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia will get Tuesday night off as he recovers from a jammed thumb.

Nick Punto will get the start at second as the Red Sox host the Tigers at Fenway Park. Pedroia jammed his thumb in the fifth inning of Monday's 7-4 win while making a diving play in the field.

Manager Bobby Valentine believed Pedroia's thumb was sprained after the game, but no update has been given as of Tuesday.
