Family Of Caleigh Harrison Investigated For Neglect

GLOUCESTER (CBS) – The family of a missing girl is now being investigated for neglect. The mother of Caleigh Harrison says the little girl disappeared last month while they were playing at a beach in Rockport.

Now there is concern for the safety of Caleigh's older sister. The Rockport/State Police team investigating the disappearance filed a civil 51A report with the Department of Children and Families.

The DCF will now determine whether to conduct a civil investigation into potential neglect.

A statement released by the State Police says, "The report does NOT mean that we have developed information or evidence suggesting foul play or neglect by a family member or anyone else in connection with Caleigh's disappearance. It is solely in relation to Caleigh's sister."

They would not comment on what prompted them to file the report.

Police say there are no new developments in the case and remain committed to bringing Caleigh home.

The girls' uncle tells WBZ he does not think the DCF probe is necessary. He says it may add to the family's heartache. He also says the family is confident Caleigh's sister Lizzie is in good care.

WBZ-TV's Christina Hager contributed to this report.
