Somerville Official Jailed For Stealing From State Will Keep Pension
BOSTON (CBS) - He served time in jail for stealing from the state, but a former Somerville court official will keep his pension.
John Buonomo was sentenced to two and a half years for stealing $100,000 from copy machines in the Middlesex Registry of Deeds.
A judge ruled this week he can still collect a pension of about $39,000 a year for his time when he worked for the city of Somerville.
Buonomo's lawyer said he paid his debt to society.
District Attorney Gerry Leone, who prosecuted Buonomo, is furious, saying in essence this ruling amounts to stealing from the public, twice.
