NATICK (CBS) – The name game at Natick High School is over.
They finally have a new nickname – the Natick Red Hawks.
WBZ NewsRadio 1030′s Jeff Brown reports
Principal Rose Bertucci made the announcement Friday. It was chosen over five other names presented in a school-wide election earlier this week.
It’s been a whirlwind few years for nicknames in Natick.
Natick High was known as the Redmen until 2008, but many school and town officials thought that was offensive.
Since then, they’ve been known simply as the school colors, as in Natick Red and Blue.
Many feel the new identity is fate.
“We had a red hawk come through our window last year. (It) was a beautiful bird and the hawk came right into our school, looked at us for awhile and then we kind of gently pushed it out the door,” Bertucci told WBZ NewsRadio 1030.
The Red Hawks officially take the field this fall.
