Report: Junior Seau's Family Agrees To Allow His Brain To Be Studied

BOSTON (CBS) -- The family of Junior Seau has agreed to donate his brain to science.

The Los Angeles Times reported that after a day of reflection after Seau's suicide on Wednesday, the family made the decision, though who exactly will study the brain has yet to be determined.

"The family was considering this almost from the beginning, but they didn't want to make any emotional decisions," San Diego Chargers chaplain Shawn Mitchell told the L.A. Times. "And when they came to a joint decision that absolutely this was the best thing, it was a natural occurrence for the Seau family to go forward."

Mitchell told the Times that the family made the decision in order "to help other individuals down the road."
