HINGHAM (CBS) – A Hingham police officer who just returned from a year in Afghanistan got a hero’s welcome Wednesday.

People holding flags lined the street as a motorcade of fire and police vehicles escorted Army National Guard Corporal John Marquardt to Town Hall.

Marquardt says he’s ready to go back to work and was humbled that fellow officers welcomed him home.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030’s Ben Parker reports

“Those are my brothers,” says Marquardt. “Just like my Army brothers, these guys are my brothers too, I’m with them night and day. It’s great that they were here. They were very supportive of me while I was over there.”

Marquardt earned a Purple Heart and a Medal of Valor during his deployment.
