Local Vet Awarded Prestigious Goldwater Scholarship

BOSTON (CBS) - A local Marine veteran has just won the nation's most prestigious science scholarship in biotechnology.

The Goldwater Science scholarship was awarded to Corporal Kenny Moreno of Hyde Park. He got home from war and signed up to go to MassBay Community College.

He not only beat out students from Harvard and MIT, but he was the only winner of the scholarship from a community college and he received the highest score.

Moreno knows what sacrifice and commitment are all about in more ways than most students can even fathom. Now he's proving that those two disciplines translate into science as well.
