PORTSMOUTH, NH (CBS) – Runners turned out in force in Portsmouth, New Hampshire Sunday to take part in the Chief Michael Maloney Memorial Run.
The Greenland Police Chief was shot to death while serving a warrant at the home of a suspected drug dealer earlier this month.
Over 2,000 runners turned out for the event. The run began at the Portsmouth Police station and ended at the Greenland Police station where Maloney was chief for 12 years.

Portsmouth Police Chief David Ferland says Maloney would be humbled by the turnout. “I think right now he is smiling down upon us,” says Chief Ferland. “He was a very warm police officer and we are much less not having him around anymore.”
The run raised $45,000 for Chief Maloney’s family.
