JetBlue Looks At Worcester Airport

WORCESTER (CBS) - Is JetBlue interested in coming to Worcester?

JetBlue President and CEO Dave Barger tweeted that he had a "very nice visit" with Massport ten days ago about Worcester Regional Airport, which lost its one scheduled airline service last month when Direct Air ceased operation and filed for bankruptcy.

Massport spokesperson Richard Walsh confirmed to WBZ NewsRadio 1030 Wednesday that JetBlue visited the airport April 13.   However, he said Massport regularly shows off the airport to prospective carriers.

"We're evaluating any number of potential new cities at a given time, but have nothing to announce in this regard at this time," JetBlue spokeswoman Allison Steinberg told WBZ-TV in a statement Wednesday afternoon.

The airline is already a huge success at Logan Airport in Boston, where it now ranks number one with about 23 percent of the traffic there.

Steinberg said JetBlue will expand it operations at Logan next Tuesday, when it launches service to Dallas-Fort Worth.
