BOSTON (CBS) – Transit police are searching for two men who allegedly assaulted and threatened an MBTA bus driver last Wednesday night.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030’s Karen Twomey reports.

At around 8:45 p.m., the men came on the bus near Warren and Hazelwood Streets in Roxbury.

The driver asked one of the men to pay the full fare, but the suspect refused. As he got off the bus, he spat in the driver’s face.

The driver said the second man then hinted he had a gun concealed in his waistband before he left the bus.

“We have seen over the last couple years, an increase in the number of assaults on MBTA employees,” says Deputy Chief Joseph O’Connor. “When someone is spit upon, it’s a very degrading thing to our operators.”

The first suspect is described as a black male with a light complexion and slim build. He is in his late teens, standing 5’07” with long hair in a ponytail and a chin-strap beard. He was wearing a black Blue Jays baseball hat, a striped shirt, jeans and sneakers at the time.

The second suspect is described as a black male with a dark complexion and slim build. He is in his late teens and stands 5’07”. He was wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, a blue jacket, and jeans at the time.

Police collected DNA evidence through a swab of the first man’s spit.

Officers said that because so many MBTA employees have been spat on, they now have a DNA database from saliva they’ve collected.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
