Cape Cod Canal Cleanup Planned For Earth Day

BOURNE, Mass. (AP) — AmeriCorps Cape Cod and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are hosting a cleanup of the Cape Cod Canal to celebrate Earth Day.

Volunteers are invited to the 12th annual "Canal Clean-Up" from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, with coffee and bagels served until 9:30 a.m.

AmeriCorps spokeswoman Christin Marshall tells the Cape Cod Times volunteers should meet at the Buzzards Bay Recreation Area at the base of the Railroad Bridge off Main Street.

There also will be tables with environmental educational materials and kid-friendly activity booths, and the Falmouth Fiddlers are expected to perform, according to Marshall.

If it rains, the meeting location will be moved to the Herring Run Recreation Area, she said.
