PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Police say the daughter of former Providence Mayor Vincent “Buddy” Cianci Jr. died of an apparent overdose.

Providence police Cmdr. Thomas Oates III said Friday an autopsy will be done on the remains 38-year-old Nicole Cianci to determine her cause of death.

Oates says authorities responded to a residence in the city’s Federal Hill neighborhood for a report of an overdose and found Cianci, who was pronounced dead. Oates says Cianci was with a male roommate, who she had been living with for the last few weeks.

He says police do not believe foul play is involved.

Cianci’s father tells The Associated Press that he loved his daughter. He asked for privacy, saying his family is going through a lot.

Nicole Cianci underwent drug treatment a decade ago.
