Rockport Selectman Tells Chairwoman To 'Go Back To The Kitchen'

Sarah Wilkinson described Sandy Jacques' remarks as "personally offensive."

"I was offended for all women, to be honest...women who work and women who are trying to raise families, go to school and have families, and to hear comments like that is just kind of a step backwards," said Wilkinson.

Wilkinson's husband encouraged her to file a formal complaint with the board.

"In today's day and age, when someone says something like that, that is really unacceptable, you have to stand up and say something about it, because not doing anything about it is basically letting those comments continue," said Wilkinson.

The board voted Tuesday night to officially denounce the remarks.

Jacques said he regrets saying what he said and did apologize on Tuesday night. He had no further comment.
