BOSTON (CBS) – Capitals center Nicklas Backstrom has been suspended for one game for crosschecking Bruins forward Rich Peverley after Boston’s Game 3 win Monday night.
Backstrom was assessed a match penalty for crosschecking Peverley in the face after the final horn sounded in the 4-3 Boston win, which carried an automatic suspension. That suspension was upheld after a disciplinary hearing Tuesday.
NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan explains the suspension in detail on NHL.com.
Game 4 of the Bruins and Capitals first-round series is Thursday night in Washington.
