Menino said Thursday that Host Community Advisory Committee would work to protect the interests of the city and all its residents and businesses during casino talks.

The panel's chairman is Brian Leary, a former TV news reporter who is now a partner with a Boston law firm.

Menino has indicated his support for a casino at Suffolk Downs.

The operators of the track have formally asked the cities of Boston and Revere to begin host community negotiations for a casino. The track straddles the two cities.

The state's new gambling law allows up to three resort casinos in Massachusetts, including one in the eastern part of the state.
