Elderly NH Man Beaten In Vicious Mugging

MANCHESTER NH (CBS) - An elderly man beaten in a vicious mugging is promising he won't let it happen again. The mugger knocked the veteran to the ground to grab what was in his wallet.

His pants are torn and his body bruised but what hurts 76-year-old Chuck Wiggin the most after being mugged is his pride.

"I'm angry and my pride is hurt," says Wiggin.

Wiggin went to get cigarettes early Monday morning and as he walked back to his Manchester apartment, a man came out of nowhere and grabbed him.

"Bam, I was on the ground and he's on top of me and I'm like this trying to stop it and he's just grabbing my pocket and ripping," says Wiggin.

The robber took off running and took Chuck's wallet with him.

"He probably took the money and threw everything else away. But what was in it was very valuable to me," says Wiggin. "All my grandkids' pictures that I'll never be able to get again."

In this neighborhood, people are disappointed but not surprised by the crime.

At 76, he still plays pool everyday and umps baseball games. He says he's not going to let the mugging stop him, but from now on he plans to take a baseball bat with him.

Police have not made any arrests, but they do have a pretty good idea of who is responsible.
