Mansfield Student Killed In Foxboro Crash

FOXBORO (CBS) - A student at Mansfield High School was killed in a crash in Foxboro early Saturday morning, according to friends.

Police say they received a call around 3:20 am about a crash on Commercial Street.

When they arrived, officers found one victim still trapped in the car. That victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police were not identifying the victim, but several students who were leaving flowers at the scene of the crash identified her as Michaela Smith, an 11th-grader at the school.

A second person was believed to have been thrown from the car and found a short distance away from the wreck. That victim was taken to Rhode Island hospital with serious, but not life threatening injuries.

Police say they believe speed contributed to the crash.

Foxboro police along with the State Police accident reconstruction section and the Norfolk County District Attorney's office are all investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
