WEBSTER (CBS) - Webster Police are warning residents about a suspicious man who tried to lure a little girl as she played in her yard.

"He pulled up and told the young lady that he was out looking for his dog, and asked if she'd seen it," says officer Steven Cacciapouti. It happened Friday morning just before 9:00 as the girl played in front of her house on Deerkill Island Road. Fortunately police say her mother saw the whole thing.

"The mother was watching, saw what was going on, and stepped out, and when she did that, he took off at a high rate of speed, circled around and drove up Route 16," says Cacciapouti.

It's a lakeside neighborhood with a lot of children. "You never know who's out there I guess," says neighbor Darrin Nuttal, who says he won't let his kids leave his sight during the annual Easter egg hunt in his yard this weekend.

Police are looking for a mid-size white or silver pick-up truck with Massachusetts plates, and a man in his late 20's or early 30's.
