NH Teacher Accused Of Assaulting Student In Classroom

MANCHESTER, NH (CBS) - A Manchester middle school teacher is under investigation for physically assaulting a student.

The alleged incident happened in a classroom, during the school day at McLaughlin Middle School. Manchester Police confirm they are investigating the assault. Manchester School Superintendent Thomas Brennan says the district first learned about the allegations last Friday and has launched their own investigation.

"The allegations were significant enough for us to as I said, start the investigation and to currently not have the teacher work in the classroom environment," Brennan said.

No one was seriously injured in the alleged assault, but Brennan says they are investigating whether or not this has happened before.

"It is my understanding that there may be a pattern. These are questions that we are asking, whether or not this has been going on for a period of time, whether or not it was one incident, one child, we are looking at every aspect," Brennan said.

The teacher's name is not being released. She teaches the same group of students all day. Parents say that is a schedule kept only by special education students and kids learning English.

Brennan said parents of students in the teacher's class have been notified.

The teacher has not yet been arrested or charged with a crime. Manchester Police say it is still early in their investigation.
