Firefighters battled what was described as a small trash fire near some switching gear on the tracks. They were able to put the flames out before 9:30 a.m.

Shuttles replaced service between the JFK-UMass and Harvard Square stops on the Red Line for nearly an hour while crews put out the fire.

Red Line service in that stretch resumed around 10:15 a.m.

MBTA officials reported residual delays were possible through the rest of the day.
