NH Police Officer Shot In Line Of Duty 'Overwhelmed' By Support

MANCHESTER, N.H. (CBS) - A Manchester police officer who was shot and wounded earlier this month wants everyone to know he is getting better.

Officer Dan Doherty was shot five times during a pursuit back on March 28.

Myles Webster, 22, of Litchfield has been charged with attempted murder in the attack.

Doherty released this statement from Catholic Medical Center, where he is recovering:

"My family and I have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of concern and support. We truly appreciate the respect everyone has given to our privacy which has allowed me to rest and focus on my recovery. I am in very good hands at Catholic Medical Center.

If I wasn't recuperating at the hospital, I would have played hockey with my friends at the CHaD Battle of the Badges. Of course I hope my team plays well and has fun.

Thanks again to everyone out there thinking of me. I am one lucky guy."
