Sanders was well known for his school and City Hall reporting in Boston and his deep distinctive voice.

He worked at Channel 4 News for 27 years from 1968 through 1995 and was one of the first African-American reporters in the city.

He is survived by his wife Alice and two children Carolyn Sanders-Glover and Walter L. Sanders Jr.

Would it have killed WBZ ad space to have included a photo of him?

  • Italo

Wow, that was fast reply service–thank you! RIP, Walt! He was a very nice gentleman.

  • petem

One of the great names from the days when news was news not tabloids on TV. He will be missed. RIP Walt.

    • RaggedScooper

Ditto that petem. Walt was a professional from a bygone era, when news reporters were hired for their ability and not a pretty face. RIP Walt !!

My money is on a red-headed Jack Williams in the background. We’ll miss you Walt.

A great gentleman with a great voice and personality.
    Rest in peace, Walt.

He was indeed a great guy who did a great job.

Of course if he was on ‘BZ more recently, he undoubtedly would have been fired and replaced with someone younger who would work for lower pay, like so many of his colleagues.

I do remember him…very personable reporter

Sanders was a solid, reliable member of the TV-4 Eyewitness News team.

My sympathy goes out to the Sanders family. Walt was such a well known individual in the Boston media and it’s always sad to see those who you seem to have known for so long to suddenly pass away.

  • bees knees

How very sad. My condolences to his family.

Godspeed Walt. You were one of the good guys. Today we are treated to horrible grammar, news crawls with comically bad spelling and”news readers” who have no clue how to deliver a story. Take note WBZ, I almost never watch your programs anymore. I’ll read here and newspapers online
