BOSTON (CBS) – Former WBZ-TV reporter Walt Sanders died Monday at his home in Spring Hill, Florida at the age of 81.

Sanders was well known for his school and City Hall reporting in Boston and his deep distinctive voice.

He worked at Channel 4 News for 27 years from 1968 through 1995 and was one of the first African-American reporters in the city.

He is survived by his wife Alice and two children Carolyn Sanders-Glover and Walter L. Sanders Jr.

      Ditto that petem. Walt was a professional from a bygone era, when news reporters were hired for their ability and not a pretty face. RIP Walt !!

    He was indeed a great guy who did a great job.

    Of course if he was on ‘BZ more recently, he undoubtedly would have been fired and replaced with someone younger who would work for lower pay, like so many of his colleagues.

    My sympathy goes out to the Sanders family. Walt was such a well known individual in the Boston media and it’s always sad to see those who you seem to have known for so long to suddenly pass away.

    Godspeed Walt. You were one of the good guys. Today we are treated to horrible grammar, news crawls with comically bad spelling and”news readers” who have no clue how to deliver a story. Take note WBZ, I almost never watch your programs anymore. I’ll read here and newspapers online

    Walt ived in Milford and his Corky worked @ Shaw’s I would see him He always was A Great gentelman and would always stop and chat. Ioften wondered what becme of him and his son
