Bruins' Chara Named NHL's Second Star Of Week

BOSTON (CBS) - After helping his Boston Bruins to a 3-0-1 record last week, defenseman Zdeno Chara took home NHL "Second Star" honors on Monday.

The Bruins captain tied for league lead with seven assists last week as the Bruins earned seven out of eight points. Chara had three assists in a 5-2 victory against the Tampa Bay Lightning, another helper in a 3-2 shootout loss against the Washington Capitals, two assists in a 6-3 win at the New York Islanders and his 40th assist of the season in a 2-1 victory at the New York Rangers on Sunday.

Chara now has 52 points in 77 games this season, establishing career highs in assists and points.

Philadelphia Flyers right wing Wayne Simmonds and Phoenix Coyotes goaltender Mike Smith were named the NHL's first and third stars respectively.

With Sunday's win over the New York Rangers, the Bruins clinched their third Northeast Division title in the last four seasons and the second seed in the Eastern Conference.
