Report: No Suspension For Chimera's Hit On McQuaid
BOSTON (CBS) -- Bruins defenseman Adam McQuaid left the ice Thursday night in bad shape after a high-speed, dangerous hit from Jason Chimera. The Capitals forward was issued a five-minute major for charging, which automatically brought a game misconduct, but it appears as though that will be the full extent of Chimera's punishment.
The Washington Examiner's Brian McNally reported Friday morning, citing an NHL spokesman, that Chimera will face no fine or punishment from Brendan Shanahan for the hit on McQuaid.
The hit came late in the first period, when Chimera hopped over the boards and took roughly 15 strides toward the Bruins' end boards, where he made contact with McQuaid. The Bruins defenseman turned his body before contact was initiated, and the resulting hit left McQuaid injured on the ice. He would not return to the game, and the Bruins said afterward that he wasn't feeling "quite right" after the hit.
Injuries typically factor into Shanahan's disciplinary decisions, but it appears the hit in this case was deemed clean enough where the resulting injury was not a factor.
