Krug Enjoyed Getting Haircut With Bruins At 'Cuts For A Cause'

BOSTON (CBS) – Torey Krug, and his long hair, joined the Boston Bruins on Sunday.

The rookie skated with the team for the first time on Tuesday. That afternoon, he was told by forward Shawn Thornton he was going to get a haircut the following day at the fifth annual "Cuts For A Cause."

"When Thorty, the guy that protects the rest of the team, comes and asks you it's kind of hard to say no," Krug told WBZ-TV's Dan Roche after Thursday's morning skate.

Torey Krug On His New Haircut:

It was his first haircut in over a year, and the first time in a long time his head has been shaved.

"He had some nice flow too. It's not like we gave him a trim; he had some locks going," Thornton joked on Thursday, the day after "Cuts" raised over $58,000 for pediatric cancer research. "I'll probably have to buy him dinner or something, I guess."

"Good for him. 'Welcome to the NHL, we're going to buzz you,'" added Thornton "But he seems like a really good kid and he was happy to do it."

Shawn Thornton On Krug, 'Cuts For A Cause':

The 20-year-old defenseman was happy to lend his head to a good cause, as it also gave him a chance to get closer with his new teammates.

"For me I think it was a really good bonding experience; to go through the same thing as some of the guys that can bring us together. It's kind a difficult time joining a locker room at the end of the season, so it was a nice experience," he said.

"It definitely makes me look young," joked Krug. "I'll be the butt-end of a few jokes the next few weeks, but that's alright. It was all for a good cause."
