Women With Headphones On Are Targeted In Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE (CBS) - Cambridge Police are telling women to leave the earbuds at home. The warning comes after two attacks on women wearing headphones walking alone at night.

The most recent incident involved a woman in her 20's who was attacked near the intersection of Ellery and Harvard Streets. One day earlier and three blocks away, another woman in her 20's was knocked unconscious at the intersection of Kirkland and Trowbridge. The thief stole her iPhone and purse.

Police say the women were less alert when wearing headphones. Also they say earbuds are a tip-off for thieves looking for high-priced electronics to steal.

Police say they can't be sure if the cases involve the same attacker, but they say the victims' descriptions are similar, a light skinned black or white man in his 30's.
