BROCKTON (CBS) – A teenager was seriously hurt when he was hit by a van in Brockton Tuesday morning.

The unidentified 16-year-old was hit while crossing Belmont Street near the high school just before 7 a.m.

Witnesses say he was thrown 30 feet.

He was rushed to Boston Medical Center with serious internal injuries and a broken arm.

The van driver, 20-year-old Jose Tacure, was charged with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

Brockton police said he had a clean driving record prior to the accident.

The boy was heading to school with friends at the time he was hit.

Counselors are being provided to students at the high school if they need them.
