MANCHESTER, N.H. (CBS) – A Manchester, New Hampshire teen is facing charges court for allegedly stealing a weapon from his father and then hiding it outside of West High School.
WBZ NewsRadio 1030′s Laurie Kirby reports.
Police said the incident began at 5 a.m. Monday when a father called police to report that his 15-year-old son was missing, along with his rifle.
The teen apparently ran away from home early in the morning and took his father’s unloaded rifle with him. He was hoping to sell it.
Police found the teen inside the guidance office at West High before school opened this morning, and found the empty rifle hidden in the bushes outside the school.
“We’re going to do a little bit of more follow-up and talk with some friends and some teachers at school, but at this point, there’s nothing to suggest he had any intention to harm anybody,” said Lt. Maureen Tessier of the Manchester, New Hampshire Police Department. “It was mainly just a piece of property that he took with him when he chose to run away.”
The teen was charged with receiving stolen property in juvenile court Monday afternoon.
