BOSTON (CBS) – Boston Mayor Tom Menino recently sat down with WBZ’s Jon Keller and touched on a number of issues, from the Mattapan Massacre trial to the Massachusetts Senate race.
Watch Part 1:
ON THE MATTAPAN MASSACRE TRIAL
“I was out in the community the other night when it happened, when the verdict came down, and the folks out there were saying ‘we’re gonna get through this.’ They’re a very resilient community…and an incident like this will not break them.”
“There was a horrendous event where four individuals were killed that evening. Somebody has to pay for it…We, as a city, have to make sure that we have the resources out there for the folks that live in those neighborhoods. We have to make sure they’re safe.”
“The legal services have to be performed. People have to be brought to justice and send a message out there. We’re not gonna tolerate violence of this type in the city of Boston.”
Watch Part 2:
ON THE SENATE RACE
“I’m not with anybody at this time. I’m not involved in the campaign. I’ve got a lot of things I’m trying to do in the City of Boston, honestly. I haven’t even focused on the election.”
“I’ve watched both these candidates. I know Scott Brown real well. I’ve interacted with him many times. I’ve watched Elizabeth Warren also. It’s gonna be a tough fight, a very close race. It’s gonna come down to who’s able to mobilize their voters.”
“Who does Scott Brown have? He has one of the few Republicans we have left in the world…and also Tea Party members and folks like that. And then you have Elizabeth Warren, which has the Democratic establishment for the most part, and progressives and women, and who’s able to mobilize those organizations are really gonna be the one who wins this campaign.”
