Husband Killed, Wife Wounded In Reported Shootout On Vineyard

WEST TISBURY (CBS) – Police are looking into a death on Martha's Vineyard in which a husband and wife reportedly shot at each other.

West Tisbury police were called to a home on Skiffs Lane just before 8 a.m. Friday for a report of a man pointing a gun at a woman.

When officers arrived they found two people shot upstairs, 63-year-old Cynthia Bloomquist and her estranged husband, 64-year-old Kenneth Bloomquist.

He died at the scene.

Cynthia Bloomquist was rushed to Martha's Vineyard Hospital, where she was in stable condition Friday afternoon.

Police say the couple was separated and Cythnia lived at the home.

According to the Martha's Vineyard Times, Kenneth Bloomquist cut the telephone wire to the house and broke in the door, armed with a shotgun.

A source told the paper he then shot his wife in the leg and she returned fire with a pistol, killing him.
