Bergeron On Gresh & Zo: Too Little, Too Late Against Sharks

BOSTON (CBS) – The inconsistencies for the Boston Bruins continued Thursday night in their 2-1 loss to the San Jose Sharks.

Forward Patrice Bergeron joined 98.5 The Sports Hub's Gresh & Zo on Friday, with Hardy filling in for the vacationing Gresh, and said the Bruins simply weren't ready after their cross-country trip on Thursday.

"I think that was the case early in the game. San Jose came out and battled real hard and got a better jump than us early on," said Bergeron, who has just one assist in the Bruins last five games. "We had to play catch-up hockey which is hard to do. We got better as the game went on… but it was too late."

Kalman: Bruins 'Can't Seem To Get On A Roll'

"San Jose is a team that is pretty good at giving us the outside, leaving us on the perimeter," Bergeron said of the Bruins having just 17 shots Thursday night. "We needed to get on the inside a little more and we couldn't do that. They're a team that used their speed and pushed us on the outside; we couldn't find ways to make more chances."

Bergeron stressed that the Bruins want to get back to their style of play; getting to the puck first and being physical with opponents. It will help if Rich Peverley returns, which could happen over the next two games on the West Coast swing. Peverley traveled with the team, and

"It's great to have him back, just [having him] with us. We've been missing him, and we still miss him," said Bergeron. "It's great; it gives us a spark and confidence that we have these guys that are coming back. We're obviously very happy with it."

While the B's have struggled, Brian Rolston has started to heat up. Acquired at the trade deadline from the New York Islanders, Roslton has two goals and six assists points in his last five games, and assisted on the Bruins only goal against the Sharks.

"He was saying he didn't get much ice time with the islanders and he needed a couple of games to get going to get his legs back and confidence. That whole line together has been helping us a lot and has been a huge part of the two wins," Bergeron said of Boston's third line. "They were the line that gave us the spark."

Plus, what does Bergeron think of Marty Turco's new pads? And is Tim Thomas starting to look like Tim Thomas again?
