Police: Elderly Wayland Man Fires Pellet Gun To Scare Off Family
WAYLAND (CBS) - A 73-year-old man faces charges after he allegedly fired his pellet gun to scare a woman and her three children in Wayland on Tuesday.
William Kelly was charged with assault by means of a dangerous weapon.
The woman and the children were walking in an area behind his home looking for frogs and other wildlife.
The family was walking on property owned by the Sudbury Valley Trustees, according to police.
Kelly told police he told the family to leave because he was concerned they were disrupting the natural habitat.
Then, Kelly allegedly discharged his gun several times to scare them off. Kelly later said the gun was empty.
The pellet gun was confiscated by police.
Kelly, who has no arrest history, will be summonsed to court at a later date.
