OnStar Helps Lead Police To Suspected Drunk Driving Crash

PEABODY (CBS) - An in-car OnStar system may have helped lead police to a crash involving a suspected drunk driver Friday morning.

Officers received 911 calls for a rollover on Route 128 in Peabody around 3:30 am. One of those calls came from the car's OnStar System, which registered that the car had been involved in a crash.

Police showed up and found the crashed car, but no driver.

After an extensive search of the area by troopers, K9, Peabody Police and infrared scanners, a trooper headed over to the home of the car's registered owner.

The trooper arrived in time to find the owner of the crashed car getting out of a taxi cab.

The trooper spoke with the car's owner and noted the odor of alcohol.

Police say charges are possible but they are still investigating the crash. The suspect's name has not been released.
